The name Persepolis is derived from the original name of the ancient city of Parseh. This name was derived from the presence of the Persian people who inhabited the area during the Achaemenid Empire. Later, the Greeks adopted names such as "Persepolis", which meant "the city of Persia". During the Sassanid period, it was commonly known as "the Hundred Pillars".
