Farcaster Verifications are coming soon Verify your account by connecting two socials (X, Phone or GitHub) and holding $25 in your wallet. Verified accounts are less likely to get the spam label and show up higher in the feed, replies and search. They are necessary to earn weekly rewards and qualify for airdrops

Why are we doing this? There are many inauthentic accounts trying to farm airdrops and rewards. Completing verifications allows authentic accounts to stand out by proving things that are hard to fake, like having socials on other networks and holding a balance for a long period of time.

How is this rolling out? Verifications will ship later this week and unverified users will be prompted to complete them. If you have completed verifications previously, you will automatically be verified. The verification will show up as a badge on your profile, which will remain private at launch (may become public later)

Some additional notes: * social accounts must be at least 18 months old * verified accounts are much less likely to get the spam label (but can still get them if they behave in a way that is spammy or inauthentic) * verifications do not guarantee that someone is human, but they make it very difficult to spin up a lot of fake accounts quickly. this is very important as storage prices are set to reduce significantly

I completely understand why you are doing this. But in case it’s helpful feedback: I won’t be able to complete these verifications. Because I don’t have other socials. I also don’t like to associate my phone number to things, as that essentially gives out my IRL identity. So I’m sad that it’s happening. Because I imagine it’ll be the beginning of the end of my time on here. Again, I totally understand why you’re doing it. It does make sense. I just wanted to give you some honest feedback. Thanks :)

What would you be willing to verify? We want a system that is transparent and fair, and verifying socials and holding funds onchain seems to be the thing that’s easy for other clients to pick up.

Hang on, no more weekly rewards or airdrops if I don't verify my phone number? I'm not a bot, I'm a genuine caster but more than anything else, I'm pro anonymity. How is referring a phone number, essential for proving authenticity?

My twitter account is verified which is also anonymous. Anything that connects crypto with my real life identity is a no go for me. You can check the authenticity of my casts over the last year to see the kind of value I add and whether that's something you want on your app or not.

Yes. Same with tg and @jesse.base.eth still congratuates the scam center or nigerian builders... anyway verification should be simple and easy. Depends on how much info u need to collect. Launch a temporary zk verification with connecting other socials, whatewer u want and then just lunk with this new certificate. Keepitsimple

Hmm. I get why you're doing this. But I don't have github, have not been on X in ages (planning completely delete on my 17th Twitterversary in June, because I'm here). So, I will not be verified? I was here before permissionless, I held my OG NFT because it's a badge of honor to me. Now does this mean I will no longer qualify for rewards? To be clear: I bailed on X to build my presence here. Since I came over, my X account is as good as abandoned. Because I'm here. So, there's not much to verify. I get why, and I see what you're doing for newer accounts, but can I please get some other criteria. Like OG NFT from the original drop? An active FID in the lower 5 digits, since before permissionless? Being trustworthy enough to get two relatively generic and now reasonably active channels (/poetry and /f1) appointed when we went to permissionless.

Maybe what stings most here is the X verification. I came here to find refuge for what X had become. Toxic, bloated speak, too much sending. Would it be possiblemto add other verifications. For me, LinkedIn would be a good one. Instagram, maybe. Or Lens, Bluesky... Just not X. It implies you want to bring that culture here.

That's a bad 2/3 options imo Most social media users don't have github so that's already super limiting. If you're not a dev, you probably don't have github X as a requirement is tricky bc many people don't like X and weren't active there which is part of why they may find FC attractive Bad dependencies that severely limit the potential pool of users eligible for rewards and airdrops

Hard Agree. Link to X is weird. Github is niche. Suggest more options for verification being available before rolling out.

What do you mean by private at launch? Only the people with verification badge will be able to see they have it? How would this affect other clients /recaster /fiids ?

I too am sad to see Farcaster move in this direction. I'd be happy with a scheme that allows preserving anonymity, yet too expensive for spammers. Take a look at /passport; they have tried hard to integrate many verification methods yet to preserve privacy-protecting paths along the way.
