Account Verifications (Beta 2) 

Verify your phone number and social accounts easily from Settings > Verifications. We now support Github, Discord and LinkedIn. 

Accounts with more verifications will be more likely to get airdrops, rewards and boosts in the feed.

Why do verifications matter? 

Developers building on Farcaster (including Warpcast) want to measure success by seeing how many "real" users they can acquire. 

Farcaster's onchain fee makes it harder to create fake profiles, but does not make it impossible. 

Spam labels are very useful in identifying users who are good casters and repliers. But they're not always the right way to think about valuable users. For example, if you're building Farville you may be totally OK acquiring a user who lurks and plays a lot of games. So you shouldn't ignore everyone who doesn't get a perfect score on the spam labels. 

Verifications provide a third layer - they require some proof of work done via other networks (phone, social etc) and are hard to reliably spoof. Developers can use verifications, spam labels and other tools to target users for their apps and measure how well they're doing.

1. You verify 5 different things. We temporarily removed the points system since it didn't quite work as well as we'd hoped. We're now considering verified to be 3/5 

2. I would verify as many things as I can. We may change our scoring if 3/5 is not sufficient to guarantee that someone is likely human, and require more.

2 questions:

1) What’s the max for X verification now?
2) Does a higher score past the “definitely human” threshold matter or is it more of a binary thing where once you pass it, score doesn’t matter as far as benefits go?

How many verifications do I need? Has the scoring changed? 

Accounts with at least 3 verifications will be considered "likely humans".  This may change, as we are still in beta. 

We may also add some qualifiers in the next weeks. For example, a Twitter account with < 100 followers or < 1 year old may not qualify towards the 3 items.

Thank you! Trying to help some folks who are stuck at Level 1 last week and told them to fk the verifications.

we found that there were a number of accounts that were very spammy that had all the verifications after collecting some data. 

having verifications will now make it much less likely that you get a spam label, but it won't eliminate it entirely.

How are verifications and spam labels going to interact? The text on notion made it seem like if you got to level 2 you got a level 2 spam label. But now this is out of 5?

top 1% is like a power user badge. it's attainable, but scarce. 

the idea is to let users show their badges/labels on their warpcast profile, which then helps a token community decide if they want to include them for airdrops.

hmm - we're trying to keep this page focussed on things users can achieve independently to prove they are human. 

top 1% by definition is exclusive and not everyone can achieve it. is there another variant of this that could work?

varun, this is great! besides proof of humanity, qualitative reputation signals are still quite useful for token airdrops. 

a few dozen token communities active on farcaster are using openrank scores for airdropping to high quality farcaster users (degen, superrare, ham, social, some clanker tokens, etc) 

how can we add 'top 1% openrank' farcaster user as a verification? we already have an API for this verification. we're constantly improving our algos, adding criteria, and most importantly are open source.

No timeline but hopefully in the next couple weeks or so. Our goal is to run some analysis comparing verifications with the public spam labels and publish the verifications on the protocol if useful.

Any idea when these will be available on protocol?

you don't have to use verifications, they're opt in. 

it's also not antithetical to crypto. ens, gitcoin passport and many parts of the ethereum ecosystem encourage verifications as a form of protection against sybil attacks.

my friend has done all the verifications but he is still in spam list

what kind of security is there in place for the phone number? like if there was a compromise on the FC protocol/keys (is that even a thing?), could they be somehow leaked?
