Projects like Polkadot and Cosmos are focused on creating interoperability layers that allow different blockchains to communicate and share assets. This could lead to a future where Ethereum remains the dominant chain for certain types of DeFi applications, while other chains excel in areas like gaming, NFTs, or high-frequency trading. In this scenario, Ethereum’s dominance would be diluted, but not necessarily replaced. The threat, then, is not obsolescence but a shift towards a more fragmented and specialized DeFi landscape where Ethereum is just one, albeit major, player.
