An excerpt from Walden, Henry David Thoreau, on bonding with one's garments "Kings and queens who wear a suit but once ... cannot know the comfort of a suit that fits... Every day our garments become more assimilated to ourselves, receiving the impress of the wearer's character until we hesitate to lay them aside ..."

The whole passage, a few pages long, is harsh on the idea of "fashion," but I like the thought that garments are for wearing, for utility, and that by wearing them they become more indispensable and more descriptive of our character. To wear a garment is to appreciate it. But it must be a well-constructed garment.
