I use em dashes because I’m from that generation where the difference between em dashes and en dashes and hyphens was actually very important. All three can elevate writing if used selectively and intentionally.

correct. tho i hear now that em dashes are a 'sign' you used (an) AI b/c 'no one really uses em dashes.' em dashes are one of my favorite writing things when i'm 'really' writing, so hearing that made me sad.

Yeah, I can't imagine not using em dashes in writing. Your sentences would have less tension—the sudden change of perspective, the subtle repositioning of rhythm. Where will the dimensionality of one's writing—the drama of multiple clauses competing for a spot in the line—come from now?
