find it interesting how seemingly so many people on the tl keep up with tennis. prob cause i grew up playing tennis in an area that only cares about football? or maybe the sport has grown a lot over the past decade?

agree on all your points. maybe better phrasing for my observation would’ve been: “the tennis discourse is much more popular than i’d imagine”. also, i equate general discourse on tl somewhat akin to tech twitter

so old money wasp culture tracks. watches, luxury brands, gold chains have made it over to a culture where it wasn’t really seen before

Tennis is a really fun sport but it’s very expensive because equipment and a whole court for two people. Since rich people were often able to or knew people playing it growing up they like it. Basketball on the other hand does not require much money to get into. Also tennis is associated generally with old money wasp culture which is in vogue right now
