I only love you
Because the love for you
lives in me
and you are far
We face the danger
that I may fall in love
with my own love for you

Because my longing for you
lives in me
and you are far
We risk the sorrow
that I may fall in love
with my own longing

Because my grief
for your absence
lives in me
I fear
I may fall in love
with my own sadness

So I must
close my eyes
and see you before me

You
not the love,
not the longing,
not the sorrow.

And only then
can I finally know:
I am not in love with my sadness,
nor my yearning,
nor my love for you

I only love you
