i just went on a walk with toby and here are the steps we logged:

me: 10,084
toby: 18,259

he was off leash for maybe 30-40% of it so it’s not the most accurate correlation but i think it’s usually about 1:1.5 (or maybe slightly more) ratio for us when he’s on leash and we’re walking the exact steps

ok listen first of all it was like 8 months ago

second of all I still think it’s a valid question and wanted to open it up to the people

I have deeply thought about this exact concept and have come to the conclusion that dogs take one step for each leg

I would assume it was 2 legs bc everything is human centric. 🙄

Two legs because humans tend to think in human terms

i would assume it's the same because iirc steps measure by distance moving, not just physical movements of the device 

so it's not counting actual steps or strides in this case 😂

but they have to count it somehow

ok rephrasing: if the dog and human walked the exact same distance, how many steps would dog tracker say and how many would human tracker say

two legs

i guess i have a hidden requirement that a step only counts with movement of the body (back legs just catch up to front legs, so no net movement)

2 as 1 step is done with two legs (at least that’s what it seems)

Hm I guess 1 step = 1 foot so based on 4 legs 🤔
