In a lot of ways, 2025 was a subpar span of time.
There were some wonderful highlights, of course — my two oldest kids getting baptized, for instance! — and there’s more than enough to be thankful for, but it hasn’t gone to plan or been easy.
Tonight, my wife, my oldest, and I watched The Shawshank Redemption (it holds up). It didn’t occur to me until just now, but that might be a fitting story heading into the new year: courage, creativity, agency, perseverance, freedom, new chapters…hope.
May the year 2026 bring unexpected depths of goodness!
