Drifts and Surfaces
Elori Saxl
Elori Saxl's Drifts and Surfaces is a short album featuring three commissioned pieces inspired by her time on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. It blends chamber instruments, analog synths, and nature recordings, with many sounds digitally manipulated. "Drifts I" evokes underwater imagery with fluttery tones and lake recordings. "Drifts II" has a jittery, ambient texture with dramatic harmonics. "Surfaces" features unprocessed baritone saxophone and glass marimba, giving a sense of coming up for air. The album is a cohesive blend of natural and synthetic sounds.
