Fantasy World Lilacs & Champagne Emil Amos and Alex Hall of the instrumental post-rock band Grails launched the side project Lilacs & Champagne in the early 2010s to delve into cinematic, sample-based music similar to instrumental hip-hop. Their electronic textures influenced Grails' music and Amos' solo work. Highlights include "Ill Gotten Gains" with its spooky funhouse vibe, "Rude Dream" with its atmospheric gloom, and "Fantasy Land," which evokes a noir-inspired Madlib beat. The track "Evil Has No Boundaries" stands out for its bizarre and humorous stage banter, set to cut-up drums and guitars. "Leprotic Phantasies" features infectious rhythms and Pink Floyd-like vocals, while "Ordinary Man" offers rainy-day guitar riffs and dream-like lucidity.
