Increasingly convinced Ethereum isn’t a retail technology and shouldn’t attempt to be. It’s nearly pure infrastructure tech. Analogy: The retail UX level up from train travel to air travel was maybe 5% marginal learning cost. But the engineering DX (developer experience) was a different universe entirely. Yes there is some npc awareness that you’re in a plane rather than a train, and the view from the window is different. But you don’t really do anything with the awareness other than some time/cost tradeoff planning. This means my standard for using a web3 app or product is: If it’s more than 5% new UX literacy than web 2, I’m probably going to mark it a non-starter. Medium confidence opinion. There are a few UX elements where the weirdness of blockchains leaks through and Web2 metaphors may not work. Kinda like Web2 itself ended up on the stream metaphor due to documents being too leaky a metaphor. Or how air travel requires managing the UX of turbulence, which is absent on trains.

No. And I'm also not a capitalist. Both are 20th century ideologies. (And they are words that have been stretched and abused to the point of meaninglessness: remember, in the 1990s, Microsoft called Linux "communist": https://www.theregister.com/2000/07/31/ms_ballmer_linux_is_communism/ ) I support freedom, global equality of opportunity, kindness and cooperation, human welfare and progress. These are timeless principles. The question is how to use the tools we have available to achieve these values in the context of the 21st century. I've written at length about the kinds of mechanisms I personally support, but I definitely do not think that I am the only source of good ideas, I think figuring out the best approach is a shared project of both thinking and also increasingly real world experimentation.
