For today's /science post I want to talk about a technology I think will revolutionize /science in the next decade, mass spectrometry-based proteomics. You've all heard of genomics but did you know your genome never changes and is the same when you are born and when you die? Mass spectrometry-based proteomics measures the real-time state of your body, is constantly changing, and can be used as a sensor to alert you something is wrong symptoms occurs. You can think of it like the genome is an architect's plan for a busy office building but the proteome is a snapshot of what's going on in that building and is constantly changing. I did my Ph.D. on mass spectrometry-based proteomics and am passionate about it and happy to answer any questions!

I did have to have AI tell me what you said, but after it did I realize it could have helped w my bf's Light Chain Depositon Disease - took 2 years and lots of kidney deterioration before it was diagnosed. This would have eliminated 24 months of waiting and saved more function in the kidneys. Pretty cool what you study, smarty pants π

Yup, ultimately that thing will be able to be diagnosed by using proteomics!
