Filecoin went through a classic “infrastructure mania” in 2021–2022. Miners rushed to bring machines online and stack disks. RawBytePower stayed above the baseline, and the Baseline Minting faucet was effectively wide open. Starting from 2023, storage growth slowed meaningfully, with periods that were essentially flat. At that point the “time scale” of the protocol kept ticking, but the “progress bar” for reward distribution started to lag. Using a rough estimate, a non-trivial volume of baseline rewards has now been deferred into the pool. These are not coins already dumped on your head; they are locked on the side, waiting for some future conditions to be met before they can come out.
