This is a pretty wild book! What if the population is 89 percent women, with only 11 percent men, raised like agricultural beasts and kept for breeding purposes only? With women divided into antagonistic cliques … yikes eh?

Reminds me of Wen Spencer's "A Brother's Price". Boys are secluded members of the family and used for bargaining for wealth or swapped for breeding. Then a farmer boy saves a princess from assassination and everything changes for his family.
