I'm not a big believer in the "we're living in a simulation" version of reality. In a sense, it seems, well, immaterial, because we are already living in the simulation in our heads. But if I someone had built a simulation of the universe, it would make sense that the lowest layer that we can find is literally just very precise math, until it is forced into a "real" value by an interaction. And that's pretty much what quantum mechanics is.

We tend to use the dominant technology of our time as a metaphor for the whole world. The world as a book, the world as a clock, etc. The dominant technology of the now is the computer, so we see the world as a computer. But it says more about our relationship to technology than anything about the world.

Thus my name! Full agree. Metaphors are how we see the world, but also, we do seem to get closer to understanding what it might be to build it all. Universal Turing machine and all that. I see life now as an emergent constraint-spaces. Our metaphors are one kind of constraint-space.
