My tip: don't "midcurve" your viewing of The Odyssey (or any film really) Nolan describes what midcurving (my term) movies is in this (very interesting) interview with Zhong Shu: https://youtu.be/wa4I8Ch2TRo?is=HJ8OA7MJTh_C0j2r Paraphrasing, it's when, as an "amateur film critic", you think that "being aware that a filmmaker is using a sympathetic mechanism invalidates that mechanism". This is a mistake bc film has its own lingua franca that it uses to communicate, and some of that are story telling tropes etc. The left curve ("just enjoy the experience") and the right curve ("just enjoy the experience, everyone uses mechanisms") both say to avoid trying to pick the thing apart from above rather than be with it at eye level. (As an example: Emily Wilson makes this mistake in a particularly vicious way)
