I think in large part crypto didn’t “revolutionize” the internet to the degree that mobile did and AI is doing is because it’s financial tech and not general tech.

Finance is slower to change. So you need grassroots speculation to build the foundation to onboard finance.

i agree with everything and i think it goes deeper. crypto fulfills intuition about how people think finance works. cash is decentralized, fungible, and permissionless. people think that's how banks and venmo works and are confused when it doesn't. people believe they should be able to invest in whatever they want (gambling culture in america is in vogue). mobile and ai don't have bureaucracy and redtape to breakthrough at a distributed level, apple single-handedly disrupted telecom. the breakup of ma-bell was the precursor to that being possible. crypto is revolutionary, but it is revolutionizing what people think already exists and therefore is less exciting. american's are financially blessed. american's have an outsized influence on what is globally perceived as important. crypto just doesn't solve american's problems or inspire them like iphones and ai do.
