Today, the legacy and failure of the European Union's GDPR rules, which give extensive power to those citizens who want to defend themselves from the bad dealings of Californian big tech companies, are blatantly on display. Tagesschau, the prime publicly funded German broadcast channel, releases a statement about how users can withdraw consent from META's plan to use user data for training their new LLM model. The idiocy here is that this is so utterly complicated and stupid and it relies on the education of individual citizens who then also need to be propagandized to think that this is a useful thing to spend their time on. It makes absolutely no fucking sense. The entire GDPR law is a joke and needs to be fundamentally reconsidered. Consumers are not going to go through these steps to be, „protected.“ This is activist masturbation. It doesn‘t help consumers, clearly
