If you want to spend Monero in real life, the best way is to have some set aside ready to go, like a checking account that you replenish. Don't buy $50 of XMR with a transparent coin like BTC and then buy a $50 gift card for the grocery store 20 minutes later. Instead, buy $100 of Monero, sit on it, and buy a $50 gift card in a week. There are ways to link your IRL gift card spends with the intial swap from Bitcoin if you don't take steps to protect yourself.
