Thank goodness mine have always just rested on the hood and made little prints all over everywhere.

We had a bard cat that tought her kittens to hid in my engine. I didnt end well the first three times they did it. Used the hose every morning until i gave up. Now i just park in the garage

Our only outside cat right now was feral for a long time until we brought her in to have kittens (and got her all fixed up at the vet), and she's smarter than all of us, so I don't think she'd ever work her way up into an engine. Unless it needed repairs. Then all bets are off and she'd probably charge me an arm and a leg.
