IPFS is kind of a scam cause you have to pay to keep it pinned which requires either an expensive provider or hosting a big server

Interesting point of view. Why would you say that about that technology? I think this could be interesting for @polluterofminds

I've talked at length about this. Everyone pays for everything whether they realize it or not. IPFS is self-hostable. If you don't want to pay in dollars to a service provider, pay in electricity and whatever computer you purchase or use to run it. That's totally cool. The idea that you can get free file hosting is false. IPFS at least provides you a credible exit with some controls. Permanent blockchain file storage is also false. It doesn't provide control to remove assets. It doesn't actually scale. It is more centralized. It also has a massive barrier to entry. IPFS is not a scam though. It does exactly what it promises. If you don't want to pay a service provider, then don't. But if you want performance, reliability, redundancy, and all the promises the modern web makes, service providers are valuable and they cost money.
