this stuff is meant to get them social media clicks. this has been happening for many many years the layoffs have nothing to do with to this

disagree if you look at it from a longterm POV optimizing for clicks = short term ad revenue =/= quality + long term trust decline in trust + quality -> decline in readership -> decrease in revenue -> cost cutting (layoffs) + social media clicks are vulnerable to algo changes -> unpredictable traffic -> revenue loss

It is very hard to quantify this, but I do think this is the case. Optimizing for clicks is not an issue in itself, as long as the value of the content matches the reason for clicking. (i.e. good quality article + answer to what is written in the title)
