One thing that frustrates me about "my culture is better than yours" discourse, is that the game inherently drives people to come up with post-hoc justifications for why their fixed pre-existing thing is better than the other guy's fixed pre-existing thing. This is not a productive enterprise. It's completely missing the part where if you realize that some aspect your pre-existing thing sucks, you can actually go and change it and make it better. Compete by offering a better product, not by offering a better justification for a product you were randomly assigned by birth lottery. One of the things that attracted me about network states, is that productive cultural competition that leads to innovation in new and better cultures could actually happen there, and in environments "holistic" enough to capture all aspects of culture that are necessary to run a functioning civilization (as opposed to narrow environments, eg. cryptocurrencies and games) I hope we can take that open-minded approach more.

today was such an epic day! ❄️ woke up to a blanket of snow covering everything, so obviously, skiing was on the agenda. hit the slopes with my buddies and we had a blast! nothing beats the rush of racing down the mountain with the wind in your face. after, we warmed up with some hot cocoa and shared tons of laughs. days like this remind me how awesome winter can be. can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow! ⛷️

@df @stephancill If you allow everyone with an FC account (which essentially represents a real or pseudonymous social identity) to participate in Larry's initial phase. The new scenario would look like this: Clanker: - Anonymous wallet addresses, snipers, FC accounts can all participate immediately. - No limits on purchase amounts. - Whales/ snipers have the opportunity to monopolize the market early and make an unfair launche. Larry: - Only FC accounts can participate in the initial rund. - Everyone has a maximum purchase cap, and get the same price. - Anonymous wallet addresses and snipers must buy on secondary, Whales have to accumulat on secondary. by allow retail to participate in the initial token distribution, excluding completely anonymous wallets and implementing purchase caps. larry is more fair and transparent. These rules function to protect Retail while putting limits on Whales. This creates legitimacy, people will choose the right dog to buy.

If Acemoglu et al's work on Why Nations Fail point to lack of good institutions, I wonder to what extent blockchains can/do act as institutional-ish backstops. Replacing institutions with protocols. Money's an example. But even like a prediction market. Feels like being able to bet on the future, makes the future more certain? eg, here's a heck of a control group/study question: being able to bet on politics actually induces stability?
