Are NFTs helpful for membership passes?

I own both regular online memberships and NFT based versions.

And the main difference seems to be if I need to renew yearly, and whether I can sell it on at some point.
So largely seems to boil down to business model, and for most businesses yearly fees is preferred.

The NFT pass could also include an expiration. 

If that’s all it’s used for, the difference might be negligible, but using the open standard of an NFT, it also allows other developers (external to the original business) to create gated experiences for those members. Or for plug & play into existing NFT frameworks.
