Thug life banned in Karnataka Kamal Hassan said “Kannada is born out of Tamil” He turned as DMK politician (nominated for Rajya sabha) His remark is unnecessary hence no evidence to prove it. Both are Dravidian languages, evolving from Proto-Dravidian around 1500 BCE. Tamil has older literary records, like Tolkappiyam (1st–4th century CE), while Kannada's earliest inscription is from 450 CE (Halmidi). They share linguistic features due to a common ancestor, not derivation. Tamil inscriptions in Karnataka (10th–14th centuries) show influence, but Kannada developed independently. The controversy reflects cultural sensitivities, as some see the claim as diminishing Kannada's distinct identity. Both languages are sister languages, not parent and child
