Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, Loretto, KY
Maker’s Mark is probably one of the newest, most well-known labels in the bourbon industry. It is certainly one of the most eye-catching bottles on the shelf, with its distinctive red wax. It also has the distinction of using wheat as the secondary grain instead of rye, a technique which Maker’s founder Bill Samuels Sr. claimed to have learned from his dear friend Julian Van Winkle. And no reason to disbelieve him. Although the Maker’s Mark label and distillery only dates back to the late 1950’s, Bill Sr.’s great grandfather ran the T.W. Samuels Distillery, and that label is still produced today, albeit by Heaven Hill.
