heard same feedback from people who churned. this is one of the reasons i'm bullish on channels and driving discovery of channels around some of these topics/interests.

the argument that channels don't drive growth lacks the nuance that growth also requires immediate engagement and retention sinks. channels are a great candidate for this.

Still a big believer in channels. Don’t think they need to be dropped, just changed up a bit.

Perhaps incentivized onboarding for specific people to run a channel? We already did that to some extent for journalists, what if we did the same thing but the person being onboarded would be tasked with posting lots of content for that subject? Tell them up front there won’t be much engagement to start, convince them it’s worth it or pay them directly, etc. If they’re well known in those communities would make it even more desirable; bring the existing followers with them with invites.

I was a massive channel maxi back in the day. Like total giver. The poster you want. I contributed to so many and never asked or even wanted ownership—a big deal when the loud narrative at the time was that these were viable businesses! Leaving $$ on the table!!!

I genuinely had fun doing that. Consuming them, contributing to them. Spam influx completely and totally destroyed it for me and I haven’t been able to ever restart the same way

I say this as some channels are legit topics, but just dead from lack of interest. Not enough content, not enough people for said subject. The just need a boost until enough people are constantly posting, eg /dev, /screens, etc

I'm still a big believer in channels too, and I like your suggestion of incentivized onboarding. 

I've been hoping to revive /slowcore-hq one day and take up regular casting there once again, pending some sort of decision from Merkle about the future of channels one way or the other.
