Anyone who’s dealt with ADHD long enough: has it ever gotten easier? I feel like since becoming aware of the symptoms the struggle has only worsened, despite always considering myself decently self-aware. I don’t know if it’s just the compounding responsibilities of work, marriage, parenthood, and adulthood. Or if it’s some weird permanent brain fog from covid. Or a tangible side effect of being plugged into crypto almost 24/7 for three years. Or just a dwindling sense of agency and direction and control of emotions. But it’s been six years now that I’ve seen three therapists, one psychiatrist with a brief round of antidepressants, and tried numerous tools and tricks yet it all feels like it’s falling apart. Where did I go wrong?

if it helps i feel as if my brain was going to explode, and a big part of me worries that it is something that is going wrong inside. but when i sit in meditation and am able to quiet the mind a bit, those sensations transform into bliss. have you tried practicing meditation with a timer and being disciplined about it? and with disciplined i mean completely equanimious and detached from labeling you as a “good” or “bad” meditator a session is one that happens, even if you spend the whole 10 minutes thinking about something instead of focusing on your breath

I’ve tried meditation numerous times, between 5- 5 minute sessions! Being disciplined about it is a totally different story. It’s arguably the second most documented helpful activity I’ve told myself I should do, right behind regular exercise. Every little nudge towards meditating helps and I appreciate yours.

Meditation came last for me…and it took some pretty dark days first to properly find it. I preferred starting into it with more guided approaches like love kindness meditation and more aggressive approaches preceding like wim hoff breathing (or vigorous exercise preceding attempting) Exercise Is just so much more accessible I believe for those with adhd as a starting point. My daughter has now been diagnosed with ADHD as well and we will sometimes when feeling everything well up inside go for three laps around the house as fast as we can and then sit in a chair and close our eyes and feel our heartbeat and breathing slow back down in silence. I’m surprised how long sometimes we’ll sit there in silence even after our heart rate has slowed back down.

the thing is people think meditating is “easy” and just sitting it is literally the hardest thing you can do, because you end up sharpening the tool through which you perceive reality and you start literally feeling with more clarity which is the source of that which expresses on the outside as ADHD, or depression, or whatnot and staring that in the eyes is brutal but the only way in is through if you need any help or guidance or whatever dc me man. I’ve working with meditation and breathwork for years now
