For long time I thought this too (my ultrawide has been with me for 8 years!) but I reached two conclusions: - the more I work with text (code, prompting, reading) the more I value text sharpness and ultrawides are lacking 5K Retina-level PPI (pixels per inch) - the jump between ultrawide and standard laptop display can be jarring at times, and I even have window tiling managers that make this easier for me; in a way I'm aiming for greater consistency since I switch between both forms more and more. My workflow is also changing a lot and I'm trying to explore virtual desktops more (Spaces as macOS calls them) so I can better compartmentalize different things I'm doing without having to think about filling the very luxurious real estate of an ultrawide.
