theoretically you could implement a permissionless and censorship resistant AT protocol PDS using blockchains basically you can build farcaster on AT protocol

Why do you need blockchains at all? What problem do they solve that hosting your own PDS doesn’t?

keep in mind that a PDS can host multiple users when you sign up to a PDS that you don't own you're trusting the owner to make and keep your data available if there is no owner then you don't have to worry about this and that's what a smart contract PDS would enable

Does this mean all data would have to be on-chain? Otherwise the smart contract doesn’t mean much.
