I think it has to do w how we’re wired to interact with people we’ve never met. Show face, more skin in the game, greater baseline of trust. Obviously people game this bc of incentives. But for growth of overall network, prioritizing media makes sense. Or go back to experimenting w partitioning the network (a la channels) like Reddit

It does feel like those are two kind of opposite directions right now It’s not immediately clear why they would be. Theory: Maybe videos seek max distribution/returns because they take more effort to make than drafting a text post so not very compatible with deliberate shrinking of your audience by posting into a specific network segment

fwiw, i do think they can coexist, like twitter or fb. but from merkle's focus standpoint, makes more sense to double down in one direction or the other
