You don’t have to look very hard to find these types of stories on r/chatgpt Imo this is very alarming. It’s one thing to have a therapist that is unregulated, it’s another to have a therapist that is not aligned with you at all (i.e. controlled by a for-profit startup)

I've used chatgpt recently for therapy and it was far and away better than any human i've ever talked to about personal problems lol. It knows exactly what to say, what to listen to, what's actionable, etc. So it doesn't matter much to me that it's unregulated or that its controlled by a for profit corporation. I would take that trade any day bc it was just way more effective. Maybe the meta concept around that is alarming but yea

i agree with that, i have the same concerns. my experience inspired the below cast: it's the ultimate dopamine to have an anthropomorphic voice that always says exactly what you want to hear, esp if you're a kid who can't self regulate behavior as well - many will end up talking to this thing 24/7 and develop very troublesome psychological effects imo. its a weird line to walk, at an individual level i'm v grateful the tool exists, im sure it is and will be helpful to many other ppl as well. but the societal at-scale implications are bleak i think. https://warpcast.com/six/0xe31ce1c2
