On the mechanical side of things you need an engine. We got a beginner kit from my little machine shop online. We realized that it would not be big enough for our needs but it's good practice! You need a lathe and drill press. Atlas-the lathe that helped win WW2! They're cheap.

Here is the steam engine partially done. Oscillating piston and bore are done. Some better measuring equipment will be needed for the new engine. A mic and intramic would be ideal.

You can just do things. In this spirit, I am attempting to chronicle building a steam powered Ethereum node, API and website.
