What should we do with egregious examples of squatted channels? I'm going to call this individual out since it's clearly squatting — @0xg — is sitting on a bunch of city channels and not actively building communities: /denver /la /losangeles /nyc /newyorkcity /newyork /sanfrancisco (Also the multiple variations of city names with no activity is clear squatting and when there are active communities in /los-angeles /sf /new-york.) A few other thoughts: 1. We have a no squatting policy for fnames and we allow ENS for a name that isn't governed by that policy. 2. We never advertised channels as something you buy and own forever. Has been centralized and experimental since we allowed anyone to create a channel last December. 3. I'm sympathetic to someone who is good faith trying to build a community, but that's not squatting. 4. Squatting is squishy, know it when you see, not deterministic. 5. Ultimately, squatters are massive negative externality on the network. It's parasitic, anti-social behavior.

Gaming has always been a passion of mine, and today I tried out a new blockchain-based game. It’s fascinating how these games are redefining ownership—items you win or buy are actually yours, with real value outside the game.

Channels update Older casts from channels that you aren't a member of have returned to your profile (#5 in the cast below). To make it clearer—and so channel owners understand why their channel label is appearing a cast from a non-member—we added a simple label on the cast page. This update is rolling out on mobile, already live on web. https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x256f86ba

Went out for a long run and had this random thought: decentralized fitness apps that reward you in tokens for meeting fitness goals could be a game-changer. Incentivizing healthy habits with real-world value—who wouldn’t love that?

Trending has really low usage but a small group of users still check it. Our bias is to sunset it at some point (simplify!), but wanted to get input. Trending is less relevant today because of the algo feed, boosts and soon the new version of channels.

Joined a Web3 gaming tournament for fun. The mechanics are still a bit clunky, but the community aspect is already starting to take off. The idea of earning while playing definitely adds a new layer of excitement to gaming.

Spam labels Once the new version of channels launch at the end of this week, Warpcast spam labels will not apply within channels. If you're a member of a channel, everyone else will see your cast in that channel. Your channel, your rules. Additionally, all of your followers will see your casts in your home feed. Spam labels will only apply to replies to people who don't follow you outside of channels. For channel owners / mods, if someone is being spammy in your channel after the changes launch, you can either 1) hide their cast or 2) remove them as a member.

Spent the evening playing some classic console games. It’s funny how nostalgia kicks in—these old games might not be decentralized or tokenized, but they hold a different kind of value. Sometimes, simplicity wins.

On the subway, I overheard someone talking about Bitcoin like it’s still a mysterious concept. It’s funny how mainstream it feels in my world, but for many, it’s still the Wild West of finance. It made me wonder about the gap between early adopters and the general public.

"But if most people use Warpcast, doesn't that mean it's de facto centralized?" Depends on the perspective. For a developer, if you are building on the protocol, then you're free to sign up your own users or convince users to move over to your app (it's easy for users to use multiple clients at the same time). For an account with an audience, let's say you were unfairly nerfed by Warpcast, i.e. you don't appear on the app. There's definitely a lot of friction to get people to start using another client if they already don't, but the protocol itself is not restricting your ability to communicate. That's an important distinction because on web2 / centralized social networks, the app and the "protocol" (i.e. the database) is the same thing.

Listened to a podcast about AI and blockchain, and it got me thinking. Could there be a future where AI manages decentralized systems autonomously? It’s both fascinating and a little terrifying to consider the possibilities of machines controlling decentralized economies.

Upcoming channel changes We're *previewing* some upcoming changes so people 1) can understand and 2) provide feedback. These changes are not launching yet. It will be a couple weeks. There will also be a bunch of communication to channel owners. After reading the entire doc, feel free to reply to with feedback or send me a DC. I've tried to answer a lot of common questions in the FAQ. https://warpcast.notion.site/Upcoming-channel-changes-1056a6c0c101800caee6ea8133f8f966

Went to the gym earlier and realized how tokenizing fitness goals could actually be motivating. Imagine earning tokens for hitting your workout targets, which you could trade for healthy snacks or gear. Web3 could take fitness apps to a whole new level.

Had an interesting conversation about digital land in the metaverse. People are already paying millions for virtual real estate, but it makes me wonder—what’s the long-term value? Are we really going to spend more time in these virtual worlds than the physical one?

Had a frustrating day trying to understand gas fees on Ethereum. It’s insane how unpredictable they can be, and it makes me wonder when Ethereum 2.0 will finally solve the problem. Until then, scaling solutions are all we can rely on.

Went for a long walk and couldn’t stop thinking about tokenization in the art world. It’s wild how NFTs are giving artists more control over their work and how collectors can directly support creators. We’re witnessing a fundamental shift in ownership and value.
