I'm back on my old BS, talking about how media is going to change with generative AI, blockchains and us becoming a fully networked society. This was originally intended as a full paper with a proposed system design & use cases, but just putting the introduction out now.

Publishing it like this because we are both near & far from CAMS coming to life. Near enough that if you look at what's happening on L2s and socialfi stacks like Base + Farcaster, you can see that our current NFT object fetish model won't scale.

Far enough that being prescriptive about how this will look, can leave one foolish. Better to think about how we deal with scale in the analog world when things go past being governable and scripted into self-organizing, emergent systems, then bringing that online to media.

Finally, I was motivated to get off my ass and put these thoughts into the world because websim.ai has come along. I consider this a proto-CAMS like product, capable of simulating imagined internets and creating liminal on-demand media experiences.

The thesis is this: Generative AI, blockchains, digital physics and the rest of the networked consumer media stack has reached a point where we can create media that is truly massive and immersive. That scope creates a breaking point beyond which top down, scripted media thrives

We hit this breaking point across many human systems from governance, to the economy, to the internet. Beyond a certain scale, we lose our ability to directly manage affairs & when this happens, these systems behave more like the natural world which is a complex adaptive system.

Complex adaptive systems (CAS) self-organize. Events are non-linear, small things have big impacts. They are emergent in which the actions of individual agents sum to complexity far greater than their individual components. Memecoins are an example of media behaving like CAS.

Take a moment & think about how you relate to memecoins...they have no boss, no planning committee, they phase in & out of your attention. Sometimes they pop up & smack you in the face. Other times you forget they exist. They are everywhere and nothing. Strange creatures...

Hyperobjects are a way of relating to things which are massively distributed in space and time. Climate Change is the poster child example of hyperobejcts, but Facebook or Memecoins are digital examples we can use as well.
