We’re planning to launch a new, optional “Pro” protocol subscription

1. At launch, subscribers will have a Pro badge on their profile

2. Subscription will be onchain and part of the protocol. 100% of the proceeds go to casters / developers in weekly rewards. This in addition to the existing $25K+ a week in rewards. 

3. Planning to add longer casts (10K characters) and up to 4 images per cast for pro subscribers (needs a protocol change). Additional features over time.

4. $120 a year / $10 a month 
Why are we doing this?

- The protocol needs to find long-term revenue source that can continue fund caster and developer rewards beyond any one company.  
- We originally thought storage fees could be that, but we’ve realized that storage fees should be essentialy free to help growth. 
- So we’re trying an opt-in pro subscription as another model

Why now?

- Figuring out a long-term revenue model that works will allow us to double down on investing in growth

longer longcasts is exciting to me! the more natively you can share your writing on a given platform, the better, and Farcaster is still not great for threads (but here I am doing one anyway...)

that said, I've used the X Articles feature a few times and engagement has been low, not much better than sharing links over there (and sharing links on X is dismal, as you know). however, I'm not sure whether that's fundamental to a Twitter-esque feed? or a result of X's implementation in particular

using the revenue to boost the rewards program is smart, that has been a win for Farcaster!

I have to figure out how to post a batch of assets to Arweave once a year and it's always painful to sort out again. Here's how. If anyone has a better idea please share!

1. Make an Arweave wallet if you don't have one. I guess https://www.wander.app/ is the one.
2. You need $AR. I transfer Eth to Ar via https://simpleswap.io. There's a storage calculator you can use to figure out how much $AR you need at https://ar-fees.arweave.dev/.
3. Install the Arweave CLI: https://github.com/ardriveapp/ardrive-cli
4. You'll need to export that wallet from Wander, you can get a JSON from it.
5. Create a Drive: `ardrive create-drive --wallet-file your-wallet.json --public --drive-name "Lucky Ghouls"`
6. That's going to return a few values including its ID, you need that ID.
