One of the main reasons coaches shy away from the 4-4-2 formation is the lack of numerical advantage in the central midfield. Against teams employing three central midfielders, such as in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, an opponent's use of 4-4-2 often results in the former having a numerical edge in the center, making it significantly harder to maintain control and dictate the game's tempo

That's a sharp point! 👌🏻 The midfield overload from 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 can totally suffocate a 4-4-2's central pair, it's like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Teams now crave that extra body in the middle to control the tempo and break lines. Do you think a super disciplined 4-4-2 with dynamic fullbacks could counter that, or is the formation just too exposed against modern setups?
