Born in America 
But not a fan of it
A country of imperials
Countless bodies used as agents of evil 
We keep our freedom by suppressing others
We keep our amenities by extracting others
We keep our voices drowning the voiceless 

What is a free country when others aren’t free?

What is America without its blood? Its sacrifice of its people? Its greed? 

We celebrate a nation crumbling in front of our eyes. 

Our rockets glow red in the middle east. Our bombs burst in the air of own cities.

To what proof are we claiming? 

Our flag is aligned with those who terrorize the poor, the sick, families who aren’t the right hue or carry the same beliefs. 

This land ain’t free—you just think it is.

I rarely write about US politics on the purple app because Reasons, and that's unlikely to change anytime soon.

But I will say this much.

I hate the Fourth of July, and that's not just because I hate fireworks.

This "beautiful" bill that's just been signed? Bleak.

It's monstrous cruelty. 

And the timing heaps it on even thicker.

There's an unfinished essay in my files called "USA: The Land of Suffering With a Smile." 

I set it aside many years ago because I couldn't edit it without sobbing.

I revisited it this morning. 

Still don't know if I can finish it, but today I'm angry enough that I might try.
