I have so many thoughts here. 1. So many black vcs are behind the 8 ball due to lack of true funding they have behind their firms 2. Many of these cos have very strict or what they call “sure thing” (practical) investments because they do have enough capital to deploy to “experiments” 3. The amount of due diligence that takes place for black founders is astounding. I often felt like I was being interrogated like I was applying for a loan. Hardly a fun experience. 4. I truly believe they want to fund us more and more but even for them it’s hard when a lot of black fledgling entrepreneurs don’t have their stuff together—many VCs don’t have patience because they are trying to build more of point 1

Please share all of your thoughts. 1. The ones that have money just follow status quo, instead of looking for true innovators. They’ll just say no instead of asking questions. 2. Investments are a gamble at the EOTD. So ofc they shouldn’t spend frivolously but they should make sure they invest in black owned companies. 3. I agree lol I’ve seen white founders with NO PRODUCT NO USERS or anything get funded almost immediately. Meanwhile everything is a damn interrogation for us. I’m over it. 4. Even the ones with their shit together have a tough time. If you want to help somebody, just help them. It’s not rocket science. Invest or connect them to somebody that will. Very simple.

Exactly! Be different, get different results! They’ll really pass on the next Amazon at pre-seed/seed stage just to go after something “less risky” at a later stage. When they can’t even afford it fr. On the flip side, that puts a chip on early stage founders shoulders to make them go harder.
