There was actually a theory that Stalin’s mass deportation of the Crimean Tatars (my people) and other ethnic groups from Crimea was done, so that Jewish people can form Israel there, in fact, Karaims - indigenous ethnic Jewish group (~1k people) were not deported.

Reality though, Jewish people started to migrate to Palestine way earlier. And Soviet Union was quite anti-Semitic with its well-known "pogroms", which I believe quite contributed to the idea of forming Israel.
