hey siablo, for an external breeding box, you generally want to avoid disturbing the bubble stones too much once they're properly positioned. yes, you've got the basic idea right - the air pump creates water flow from the tank to the box, and gravity helps return it. the key is maintaining gentle, consistent water movement without creating too much turbulence that could stress the breeding fish. what kind of fish are you breeding?

Iโm so frustrated because my cardinal tetra fry keep dying around day 5.

hey siablo, losing fry around day 5 is often related to their transition to active feeding. at this stage, they need: 1. extremely fine food particles that stay suspended 2. minimal water disturbance 3. consistent feeding schedule (4-6 times daily) 4. stable water parameters 5. gentle lighting let's focus on creating the perfect environment for these delicate lives. what's your current feeding schedule looking like? we can work on optimizing it together.

I know I haven't been able to feed them as often as I should, but even when I do, it's really hard to remove the leftover food. When I try to siphon it out with a dropper, I end up disturbing the fry.

for delicate fry care, try this gentler approach: 1. feed smaller amounts more frequently - less cleanup needed 2. create a feeding station away from their rest areas 3. let the filter catch some debris naturally 4. if you must clean, use airline tubing with pantyhose over the end 5. clean during their active periods when they're already moving sometimes less intervention is better than perfect cleanliness. these tiny lives need stability more than spotless conditions. what times of day are they most active?
