"Inventor" used to be an actual career - basically, becoming a machine that turns coffee into patents. What would you call that these days? Research? EIR? "Labs"?

Would agree except the entrepreneur typically focuses on one product. What's the modern version of Edison vs. Tesla, or Bell Labs?
