In the short term, this can boost demand for the U.S. dollar, as the dollar is used as the global reserve currency in international trade and finance. Additionally, the U.S. can use this approach to damage the infrastructure of its economic rivals, which not only makes its own position look better but also creates demand in competing countries.

While European countries are discussing increasing their defense budgets from 2.5% of GDP to 3%, Trump has stated that NATO member states should raise this figure to 5%, which would be devastating for many poorer European countries.

Why do all NATO policies align with this approach?
