Spoke with the Construction Industries Division of New Mexico. They are saying that a container home has to be fully designed by a structural engineer. So, another large amount of money to throw at it. I can't just "build" what I want. So, here we go again. I'm not paying to have another design engineered, so I seem to be pivoting back to the sandbag dome. Still waiting on that bit of engineering to be done tho. Hurry up and wait is the current motto. There's no guarantee that the county will approve the placement of an earthbag home either.

This kind of thing makes me so mad. Regulated out of the freedom to just do what we want with our own spaces.

Yea, I agree! It's some BS, but this is why housing in America isn't cheap. I'll figure it out though! I can still use this space for a workshop and many more things! It'll be super simple to just build off of it and make a carport, compost area, and whatever else I might need. But yeah, we aren't really that free haha.
