to be honest, I was wrote this after listening to Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love for about 12 hours straight. I think there is an element of influence in there, but redirected. It was more or less about the end of a relationship. When you think you found the one, and then they turned out to be like everyone else. Even the lines reflect that, the beginning it says:
"The hero smiled, my heart beat, the beat of a drum"
then later it says:
"The rhythm in my chest turned hollow,
each beat learning the shape of a snare."
that is making reference to a snare drum, because the sound is sharper, but also making reference to a trap. So now I caught in something, the realization sucks.
but it was a combination of a few things that gave me inspiration, but those were the two biggest factors
