Personally think it’s valuable to keep a “standard issue” mentality. The concept is you can customize your tools but keep your skills sharp enough that you can still get the job done if you didn’t have them. Use a cool shell like nushell but make sure you can still use Bash without an issue Learn that new keyboard layout, but make sure you can type on a regular board in case that’s all you have Learn that new JavaScript framework but make sure you can still use React if you have to (or vanilla js for that matter) Use AI to help solve that coding problem, but maybe take a minute to understand what it did so you can remember next time in the case there’s an API outage Specialize, enjoy preference, but there’s value to keeping up with the standard issued tools

In fighting games we call these fundies (fundamentals). You can be as stylish and flashy as you'd like, but without solid fundies the skill ceiling becomes very low very quickly.
