Sad news: Stamen (SF data + cartography studio, major influence in the data viz scene since 2000’s) is shutting down Map Stack.

Map Stack was a free service that let you create and host custom map tiles for Google Maps-style web maps. It never made money, so it’s no surprise Stamen wants to retire it. But damn, Map Stack was an amazing tech solution for designers.

Oh my gosh, what a bummer about Map Stack! 
It’s so sad to see it go, but I'm genuinely grateful for all the beautiful maps it enabled.
