Not long ago, I'd have said they produced DeepSeek, which Perplexity managed to post-train, and give us DeepSeek that ran without resource constraints. But a lot has changed since then. The best model from China to me, so far, is Qwen - I would give it a go if you haven't.

yes! i think this is the case in vietnam too. there is no karl marx communism out there. always got class, always got state.

oh but china is way more "communist" than say, vietnam ;) its super interesting to listen and speak to tech folk there, who tend to be quietly anti-ccp. though anti-ccp doesn't make it any more (or less) communist - i guess you're right, they're more capitalist than they care to admit :)
